The problem with majority of proclaimed UI systems out there, is that a majority of them are designed by big tech companies, like IBM, Google, Uber, Samsung etc. And these companies while having a lot of resources to build the same, often fail at one task i.e. to make it work.
Unless you've been extremely lucky, often times you might have ound yourself stuck in a loading UI on an app developed and designed by one of them. At least I have, and one thing I've' felt is frequently the loading screen failed to offer heart's content out of information required to present in the unlikely case of the execution failing, to understand and help me weigh my options. For example with Uber, failing to find me a ride on a specific occasion, or Google Drive failing to sync or upload my to my drive, or a mail sent "pending" in Outgoing inbox of GMaiL. We don't realize this often but these small tasks have found themselves in the middle of our lives and play a crucial role with our progress.
1. Choices & Options
That's the first thing that is intended to be fixed by UI that we're working on.
"People should get choices"
Sometimes, when you're sitting in the sun in a park or garden and your mobile device is at 30% battery. Your device enters into a mode that increases the brightness to maximum. Which is it responding to Sun, via a photosensor in lumens directly to provide you with "auto brightness"
But!
What if there's a way it could be better?
Increasing brightness of display causes your phone's battery to die out far quicker than usual, now what if you were travelling and that 1% battery would've matered more than one can imagine? In the above scenario, researchers at some Google Lab far away thought this way was the best way to deal with readability problem. Denying user of choice and relying solely on numbers.
In situations like this, involving the human element is importan, in a world where everything is run by algorithms, and rapidly changing due to AI and people are feeling lost or disconnected more than ever. It is important to consider "the Human Factor""
We're not a big company.
Heck, we don't even have a design team now !
We don't even know how to we'll do it.
We just know we must.
"Design is (+ has been) an integral part of our society and human civilization. If we loose design to machies and algorithms we might as well be lost forever"
What we'll do ?!
We will do a lot of tests, lot of real world, working scenarios, experiments. We will open source our apps, we will allowthe design to be shaped by everyone, we will take your personal input, we will build the future of humanity on a planetary scale, one system at a time.
We're asking for you to pick your phone up to download this app and join us in the journey of rebuilding interfaces, interactions, with computers of new age. For developers, we're also launching an animation playground where you can test, UX along with UCAG guidelines and many more tools.
Since, you've read till last, we'd like to listen to your input and appreciate any fedback on HN or below this post in comment section.
